Ingredients

  • Glutinous rice - 200 grams
  • Chicken breast - 200 grams
  • Soy sauce (Kosher) - 2 tablespoons
  • Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
  • Shallots, thinly sliced - 2
  • Chicken broth (Kosher) - 300 ml
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Green onions, chopped - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Rinse the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  2. In a pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat and sauté the minced garlic and sliced shallots until fragrant and golden brown.
  3. Add the chicken breast to the pot, season with salt and black pepper, and cook until browned on both sides, about 5 minutes.
  4. Pour in the chicken broth and soy sauce, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the chicken is cooked through. Once done, remove the chicken and let it rest before shredding.
  5. Drain the soaked rice and place it in a steamer lined with cheesecloth. Steam the rice for 20-25 minutes until tender and sticky.
  6. Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork and serve it in bowls. Top with shredded chicken, and drizzle with the remaining sauce from the pot.
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
