Ingredients

  • Black sticky rice - 150 grams
  • Coconut milk - 200 ml
  • Sugar - 30 grams
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Banana leaves (optional) - for serving

Steps

  1. Rinse the black sticky rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. After soaking, drain the rice and steam it in a bamboo or metal steamer lined with banana leaves for about 30-35 minutes until tender.
  3. While the rice is steaming, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt in a saucepan over low heat. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved, then remove from heat.
  4. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a serving plate and drizzle half of the sweetened coconut milk over the top.
  5. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top for added flavor and texture, and serve the remaining coconut milk on the side for drizzling.
