Ingredients

  • Glutinous rice - 150 grams
  • Water - 300 milliliters
  • Coconut milk - 100 milliliters
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Sugar - 2 tablespoons
  • Roasted peanuts - 50 grams
  • Sesame seeds (optional) - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Rinse the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. After soaking, drain the rice and place it in a steamer lined with cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel.
  3. Steam the rice over boiling water for about 30-35 minutes, or until it becomes translucent and fully cooked.
  4. While the rice is cooking, prepare the coconut sauce by combining coconut milk, sugar, and salt in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Do not let it boil.
  5. Once the rice is done, transfer it to a serving bowl and drizzle half of the coconut sauce over it. Mix gently to combine.
  6. Top the sticky rice with roasted peanuts and sprinkle sesame seeds if using.
  7. Serve the remaining coconut sauce on the side for drizzling before eating.
