- Beef brisket - 300 grams, cut into 2.5 cm cubes
- Coconut water - 250 ml
- Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Shallots - 2, thinly sliced
- Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
- Star anise - 1
- Cilantro - for garnish
- Green onions - 2, chopped
Steps
- In a large pot, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat and sauté the minced garlic and sliced shallots until fragrant.
- Add the beef cubes to the pot and brown them on all sides.
- Stir in the fish sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, black pepper, and star anise.
- Pour in the coconut water, ensuring the beef is submerged. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 60 minutes, or until the beef is tender.
- Remove the lid and increase the heat to medium-high to reduce the sauce slightly, about 10-15 minutes.
- Once the sauce has thickened, remove from heat and discard the star anise.
- Serve hot, garnished with chopped cilantro and green onions.
