Ingredients
- Kosher beef (sirloin or flank) - 300 grams
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Shallots - 2, finely chopped
- Fish sauce (kosher) - 2 tablespoons
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Rice paper wrappers - 8 sheets
- Lettuce leaves - 4 large
- Fresh mint - 1/2 cup, leaves only
- Cilantro - 1/2 cup, leaves only
- Cucumber - 1 small, julienned
- Carrots - 1 small, julienned
- Peanut sauce (kosher) - for dipping
Steps
- In a bowl, combine the minced garlic, chopped shallots, fish sauce, sugar, black pepper, and sesame oil to create a marinade.
- Slice the kosher beef into thin strips and add it to the marinade. Allow it to marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, grill the marinated beef strips for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your desired doneness.
- While the beef is grilling, prepare the fresh vegetables and herbs: wash and dry the lettuce, mint, and cilantro. Julienne the cucumber and carrot.
- To assemble, fill a shallow dish with warm water. Dip one rice paper wrapper into the water for about 10 seconds until soft and pliable.
- Place the softened rice paper on a clean surface. Layer a lettuce leaf, a few mint leaves, cilantro leaves, cucumber, carrot, and grilled beef strips on the rice paper.
- Fold the sides of the rice paper over the filling, then roll it up tightly from the bottom to enclose the filling completely.
- Repeat the process with the remaining rice paper and filling.
- Serve the Thịt Nướng Cuốn with a side of peanut sauce for dipping.
