Ingredients

  • Fresh shrimp (large) - 300 grams
  • Lemongrass stalks - 2 (about 20 cm long)
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Lime - 1, cut into wedges
  • Cilantro - a handful, for garnish
  • Water - 200 milliliters

Steps

  1. Prepare the lemongrass by trimming the ends and removing the tough outer layers. Cut the stalks into 3-4 sections and bruise them slightly with the back of a knife to release their flavor.
  2. In a bowl, marinate the shrimp with minced garlic, fish sauce, and black pepper. Allow to marinate for 10 minutes.
  3. Set up a steaming pot or a large pot with a steamer basket. Pour in 200 milliliters of water and bring to a boil.
  4. Place the bruised lemongrass at the bottom of the steamer basket. Arrange the marinated shrimp on top of the lemongrass in a single layer.
  5. Cover and steam the shrimp for about 6-8 minutes or until they turn pink and are cooked through.
  6. Once done, remove the shrimp from the steamer and garnish with fresh cilantro and lime wedges. Serve immediately.
