Ingredients

  • Fresh shrimp - 400 grams
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Fresh ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Lemon grass - 1 stalk, finely chopped
  • Fish sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Lime juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Red chili - 1, finely sliced (optional)
  • Fresh coriander - for garnish
  • Salt - to taste
  • Water - 250 milliliters

Steps

  1. Rinse the shrimp under cold water and devein them if necessary. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the fish sauce, lime juice, sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and chopped lemon grass. Mix well until the sugar dissolves.
  3. In a steamer or a pot with a steaming rack, add 250 milliliters of water and bring it to a boil.
  4. Place the shrimp in a single layer on the steaming rack. Drizzle half of the prepared sauce over the shrimp and season with salt to taste.
  5. Cover the pot and steam the shrimp for about 5-7 minutes, or until they turn pink and are cooked through.
  6. Once cooked, remove the shrimp from the steamer and transfer to a serving plate. Drizzle the remaining sauce over the top and garnish with fresh coriander and sliced red chili if desired.
  7. Serve immediately with lime wedges on the side.
