Ingredients

  • Seitan - 200 grams
  • Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Maple syrup - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Lime juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Chili flakes - 1 teaspoon
  • Fresh cilantro - for garnish
  • Lettuce leaves - for serving

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, maple syrup, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, black pepper, rice vinegar, lime juice, and chili flakes to create the marinade.
  2. Cut the seitan into rib-like strips and add them to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Allow to marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  3. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat.
  4. Remove the seitan from the marinade and place it on the grill. Cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until grill marks appear and the edges are slightly crispy.
  5. While grilling, you can brush some of the leftover marinade onto the seitan for extra flavor.
  6. Once done, remove from the grill and let it rest for a couple of minutes.
  7. Serve the grilled seitan with fresh lettuce leaves and garnish with cilantro. Optionally, serve with additional lime wedges or a dipping sauce of your choice.
