Ingredients
- Ground pork - 200 grams
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Shallots - 1 medium, minced
- Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Rice paper wrappers - 4 pieces
- Lettuce leaves - 4 large leaves
- Fresh herbs (mint, cilantro, basil) - 1 cup, chopped
- Cucumber - 1 small, julienned
- Carrot - 1 small, julienned
- Peanuts - 2 tablespoons, crushed (for garnish)
- Lime - 1, cut into wedges
Steps
- In a bowl, combine ground pork, minced garlic, minced shallots, fish sauce, brown sugar, black pepper, and sesame oil. Mix well until the ingredients are fully incorporated.
- Shape the pork mixture into small sausage-like logs (about 5 cm long) and place them on skewers.
- Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Grill the pork skewers for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until cooked through and slightly charred.
- While the pork is grilling, prepare the fresh vegetables and herbs. Arrange lettuce leaves, chopped herbs, julienned cucumber, and carrot on a serving platter.
- To serve, take a rice paper wrapper, dip it in warm water for a few seconds until soft, and place it on a plate. Add a piece of grilled pork, some lettuce, herbs, cucumber, and carrot, then roll it up like a burrito.
- Serve the rolled nem nướng with crushed peanuts on top and lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the rolls.
