Ingredients

  • Fresh coconut - 200 grams, grated
  • Granulated sugar - 100 grams
  • Water - 50 ml
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Vanilla extract - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Food coloring (optional) - a few drops

Steps

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the grated coconut, sugar, water, salt, and vanilla extract.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture begins to thicken, about 10-15 minutes.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture becomes sticky and begins to pull away from the sides of the pan, about 20-25 minutes.
  4. If using food coloring, add it during the last 5 minutes of cooking and stir until evenly distributed.
  5. Remove the mixture from heat and spread it evenly onto a greased baking sheet or tray.
  6. Allow to cool completely, then cut into small pieces or shapes as desired.
