Ingredients

  • Squid - 300 grams, cleaned and sliced into rings
  • All-purpose flour - 100 grams
  • Cornstarch - 50 grams
  • Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Water - 150 ml
  • Vegetable oil - for frying

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and turmeric powder.
  2. Gradually add water to the dry ingredients while whisking until a smooth batter forms. Let it rest for about 10 minutes.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat, enough to submerge the squid rings (about 3-4 cm deep).
  4. Dip the cleaned squid rings into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated.
  5. Carefully place the battered squid into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  6. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until the squid is golden brown and crispy, then remove and drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve hot with a side of dipping sauce, such as sweet chili sauce or a lime-infused sauce.
