Ingredients

  • Beef brisket - 200 grams
  • Rice noodles - 100 grams
  • Beef bone broth - 1 liter
  • Shallots - 2, thinly sliced
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 cm piece, sliced
  • Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
  • Bean sprouts - 100 grams
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Fresh cilantro - 1/4 cup, chopped
  • Lime - 1, cut into wedges
  • Chili sauce - to taste

Steps

  1. In a pot, heat a little oil over medium heat and sauté the shallots, garlic, and ginger until fragrant.
  2. Add the beef brisket to the pot and sear on all sides until browned.
  3. Pour in the beef bone broth and bring to a simmer. Add fish sauce, soy sauce, and black pepper.
  4. Cover and simmer for about 30 minutes, until the beef is tender.
  5. While the beef is cooking, prepare the rice noodles according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  6. Once the beef is tender, remove it from the pot and slice it thinly.
  7. In serving bowls, divide the cooked noodles and top with sliced beef.
  8. Ladle the hot broth over the noodles and beef, then garnish with bean sprouts, green onions, cilantro, and lime wedges.
  9. Serve with chili sauce on the side for those who like extra heat.
