Ingredients

  • Chicken thighs - 400 grams, boneless and skinless
  • Soy sauce - 30 ml (low sodium)
  • Fish sauce - 15 ml
  • Oyster sauce - 15 ml (optional for extra flavor)
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Shallots - 2, finely chopped
  • Five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Honey or Erythritol - 1 teaspoon (for sweetness, optional)
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh cilantro - for garnish
  • Oil - for grilling (coconut or olive oil)

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, fish sauce, oyster sauce, minced garlic, chopped shallots, five-spice powder, black pepper, honey or erythritol, and lemon juice to make the marinade.
  2. Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for more flavor.
  3. Preheat the grill or grill pan over medium-high heat and lightly oil the surface.
  4. Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting any excess drip off. Grill the chicken thighs for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked and juices run clear.
  5. Once cooked, let the chicken rest for a few minutes before slicing.
  6. Serve the chicken garnished with fresh cilantro and enjoy with a side of steamed vegetables or a green salad for a complete low-carb meal.
