Ingredients
- Firm tofu - 400 grams
- Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
- Maple syrup - 2 tablespoons
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Lemongrass - 1 stalk, finely chopped
- Chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Ground black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Fresh cilantro - 1/4 cup, chopped (for garnish)
- Fresh mint - 1/4 cup, chopped (for garnish)
- Lime wedges - 2 (for serving)
Steps
- Press the tofu for 30 minutes to remove excess moisture. Wrap it in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top.
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, maple syrup, vegetable oil, minced garlic, chopped lemongrass, chili powder, ground black pepper, and salt to create the marinade.
- Cut the pressed tofu into thick slices (about 1 cm) and place them in the marinade. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Preheat your grill or a grill pan over medium heat. Lightly oil the grill grates to prevent sticking.
- Grill the marinated tofu slices for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they have nice grill marks and are heated through.
- Remove the tofu from the grill and let it rest for a couple of minutes before slicing it into smaller pieces.
- Serve the grilled tofu garnished with fresh cilantro and mint, alongside lime wedges for squeezing over the top.
