Ingredients

  • Beef sirloin - 200 grams
  • Lime juice - 2 tablespoons
  • Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Shallots - 1 medium, thinly sliced
  • Carrot - 1 small, julienned
  • Cucumber - 1 small, julienned
  • Red bell pepper - 1/2, julienned
  • Fresh mint leaves - 1/4 cup, chopped
  • Fresh cilantro - 1/4 cup, chopped
  • Peanuts - 2 tablespoons, crushed
  • Chili pepper - 1 small, thinly sliced (optional)
  • Lettuce leaves - for serving

Steps

  1. Thinly slice the beef sirloin against the grain and place in a bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix lime juice, fish sauce, sugar, minced garlic, and half of the sliced shallots to create the marinade.
  3. Pour the marinade over the sliced beef and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  4. While the beef is marinating, prepare the vegetables by julienning the carrot, cucumber, and red bell pepper.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine the marinated beef (discard the marinade), carrot, cucumber, red bell pepper, chopped mint, and chopped cilantro.
  6. Toss everything together gently to combine.
  7. Serve the salad on a bed of lettuce leaves, and sprinkle with crushed peanuts and sliced chili pepper for garnish.
