  • Coconut milk - 200 ml
  • Honey - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - a pinch
  • Tapioca starch - 1 tablespoon
  • Water - 300 ml
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)

Steps

  1. Rinse the sticky rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain the soaked rice and steam it in a bamboo or metal steamer for about 30 minutes until it becomes tender and sticky.
  3. In a saucepan, combine the coconut milk, honey, and a pinch of salt. Heat gently over low heat, stirring until the honey dissolves.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the tapioca starch with a little cold water to form a slurry, then add this to the coconut milk mixture, stirring continuously until it thickens slightly.
  5. Once the sticky rice is cooked, remove it from the steamer and divide it into two bowls.
  6. Pour the warm coconut sauce over the sticky rice in each bowl.
  7. Garnish with sesame seeds and serve immediately.
