Ingredients

  • Black beans - 100 grams
  • Water - 1 liter
  • Coconut milk - 200 ml
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Pandan leaves - 1-2 leaves (optional)
  • Ice - as needed

Steps

  1. Rinse the black beans under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Soak the black beans in water for at least 4 hours or overnight to soften them.
  3. Drain the soaked beans and place them in a pot with 1 liter of fresh water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for about 30 minutes or until the beans are tender.
  4. If using pandan leaves, tie them in a knot and add them to the pot during the last 10 minutes of cooking for added aroma.
  5. Once the beans are cooked, remove the pandan leaves (if used) and add sugar and salt to the pot. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
  6. Pour in the coconut milk and stir well. Allow the mixture to simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Serve warm or chilled over ice for a refreshing treat.
