Ingredients

  • Sticky rice - 100 grams
  • Coconut milk - 200 milliliters
  • Durian flesh - 100 grams
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Water - 300 milliliters
  • Sesame seeds (optional) - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Rinse the sticky rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. After soaking, drain the sticky rice and steam it in a bamboo or metal steamer for about 25-30 minutes until tender.
  3. While the rice is steaming, in a saucepan, combine coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Heat over low-medium heat until the sugar is dissolved, stirring occasionally. Do not let it boil.
  4. Once the sticky rice is cooked, transfer it to a bowl and pour half of the coconut milk mixture over it, mixing thoroughly. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  5. In a separate bowl, mash the durian flesh until smooth. You can adjust the amount of sugar in the coconut milk mixture if you prefer it sweeter.
  6. To serve, place a portion of the sticky rice on a plate, top it with the mashed durian, and drizzle with the remaining coconut milk mixture. Optionally, sprinkle sesame seeds on top for added texture.
  7. Enjoy your Chè Nếp Sầu Riêng warm or chilled!
