Ingredients

  • Black sticky rice - 100 grams
  • Coconut milk - 200 milliliters
  • Water - 500 milliliters
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Salt - a pinch
  • Sesame seeds - 2 tablespoons
  • Pandan leaves - 2 pieces (optional, for aroma)

Steps

  1. Rinse the black sticky rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain the soaked rice and transfer it to a pot. Add 500 milliliters of fresh water and pandan leaves if using. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for about 30-40 minutes until the rice is tender.
  3. In a separate saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Heat gently until the sugar is dissolved, then remove from heat.
  4. Once the rice is cooked, drain any excess water and transfer it to serving bowls. Pour the sweetened coconut milk over the rice.
  5. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top for added flavor and texture. Serve warm or at room temperature.
