Ingredients

  • Glutinous rice - 100 grams
  • Coconut milk - 200 ml
  • Water - 300 ml
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Salt - a pinch
  • Pandan leaves - 2 leaves (optional for flavor and color)
  • Sesame seeds - 20 grams (toasted, for garnish)

Steps

  1. Rinse the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain the soaked rice and place it in a steamer lined with pandan leaves (if using). Steam the rice for about 20 minutes until it becomes translucent and sticky.
  3. While the rice is steaming, prepare the coconut sauce by combining coconut milk, sugar, salt, and the remaining water in a saucepan. Heat over medium until the sugar dissolves completely, stirring occasionally.
  4. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a bowl and drizzle half of the coconut sauce over it. Mix gently to combine.
  5. Serve the glutinous rice in small bowls, topped with the remaining coconut sauce and garnished with toasted sesame seeds. Optionally, add a few extra pandan leaves for aroma.
