Ingredients
- Glutinous rice - 100 grams
- Coconut milk - 200 ml
- Water - 300 ml
- Sugar - 50 grams
- Salt - a pinch
- Pandan leaves - 2 leaves (optional for flavor and color)
- Sesame seeds - 20 grams (toasted, for garnish)
Steps
- Rinse the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Drain the soaked rice and place it in a steamer lined with pandan leaves (if using). Steam the rice for about 20 minutes until it becomes translucent and sticky.
- While the rice is steaming, prepare the coconut sauce by combining coconut milk, sugar, salt, and the remaining water in a saucepan. Heat over medium until the sugar dissolves completely, stirring occasionally.
- Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a bowl and drizzle half of the coconut sauce over it. Mix gently to combine.
- Serve the glutinous rice in small bowls, topped with the remaining coconut sauce and garnished with toasted sesame seeds. Optionally, add a few extra pandan leaves for aroma.
