Steps

  1. Rinse the clams under cold water, scrubbing the shells to remove any sand or grit.
  2. In a pot, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat and sauté the minced garlic and sliced shallots until fragrant.
  3. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften, about 5 minutes.
  4. Pour in 1 liter of water and bring it to a boil.
  5. Stir in the tamarind paste and fish sauce, then add the rinsed clams to the pot.
  6. Cover and cook until the clams open up, about 5-7 minutes.
  7. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  8. Garnish the soup with chopped cilantro and sliced green chili before serving.
