- Pineapple - 100 grams, diced
- Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Tamarind paste - 1 tablespoon
- Water - 500 ml
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Chili pepper - 1 small, sliced (optional)
- Fresh cilantro - for garnish
Steps
- In a pot, bring 500 ml of water to a boil.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and diced pineapple to the boiling water, and simmer for about 5 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the fish sauce, tamarind paste, and sugar, adjusting to taste if necessary.
- Add the rau đắng to the pot and cook for an additional 5 minutes until the herbs are wilted.
- If using, add sliced chili pepper for a bit of heat and simmer for another 2 minutes.
- Taste the soup and adjust seasoning if needed, then remove from heat.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.
