  • Pineapple - 100 grams, diced
  • Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Tamarind paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Water - 500 ml
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Chili pepper - 1 small, sliced (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro - for garnish

Steps

  1. In a pot, bring 500 ml of water to a boil.
  2. Add the chopped tomatoes and diced pineapple to the boiling water, and simmer for about 5 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in the fish sauce, tamarind paste, and sugar, adjusting to taste if necessary.
  4. Add the rau đắng to the pot and cook for an additional 5 minutes until the herbs are wilted.
  5. If using, add sliced chili pepper for a bit of heat and simmer for another 2 minutes.
  6. Taste the soup and adjust seasoning if needed, then remove from heat.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.
