- Shallots - 2, thinly sliced
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
- Coconut water - 200 ml
- Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
- Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
- Chili pepper - 1, sliced (optional)
- Spring onions - 2, chopped for garnish
- Fresh coriander - a handful, for garnish
Steps
- Cut the tuna steak into bite-sized chunks and set aside.
- In a medium pot or skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the sliced shallots, and sauté until they become translucent.
- Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, stirring for another minute until fragrant.
- Add the tuna chunks to the pot and sear them for 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally until lightly browned.
- Pour in the coconut water, soy sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, and black pepper. Stir to combine all ingredients.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
