- Mackerel - 400 grams, cleaned and gutted
- Lemongrass - 2 stalks, chopped
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, thinly sliced
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Lime - 1, juiced
- Chili - 1, sliced (optional)
- Salt - ½ teaspoon
- Black pepper - ¼ teaspoon
- Coriander leaves - for garnish
Steps
- Prepare the mackerel by rinsing it under cold water and patting it dry with paper towels.
- In a bowl, mix the fish sauce, lime juice, salt, and black pepper. Rub this mixture all over the mackerel, ensuring it is well-coated.
- In a steamer or heatproof plate, layer the chopped lemongrass, ginger, and garlic. Place the mackerel on top of the aromatics.
- If desired, place sliced chili on top of the fish for added heat.
- Fill the steamer with water and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, reduce to a simmer and place the mackerel in the steamer.
- Cover and steam the mackerel for about 20 minutes or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
- Carefully remove the mackerel from the steamer and garnish with coriander leaves before serving.
