Ingredients
- Mackerel fish - 400 grams
- Fresh ginger - 20 grams, sliced
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Fresh coriander - 20 grams, chopped
- Spring onions - 2 stalks, chopped
- Lime - 1, juice and zest
- Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Chili peppers - 1, sliced (optional)
- Water - 200 milliliters
Steps
- Clean the mackerel thoroughly and make 2-3 diagonal slits on each side to help it cook evenly.
- In a bowl, mix the lime juice, fish sauce, soy sauce, minced garlic, black pepper, and sliced chili peppers.
- Rub the mixture all over the mackerel, including inside the slits, and let it marinate for 15 minutes.
- Prepare a steaming setup by bringing 200 ml of water to a boil in a pot.
- Place the sliced ginger and half of the chopped coriander at the bottom of a heatproof plate.
- Lay the marinated mackerel on top of the ginger and sprinkle with spring onions.
- Cover the plate with aluminum foil and place it in the steamer basket above the boiling water.
- Steam the mackerel for about 15-20 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
- Once done, carefully remove the plate from the steamer, garnish with the remaining coriander, and serve hot with lime wedges.
