Ingredients

  • Jasmine rice - 150 grams
  • Pork shoulder - 300 grams
  • Soy sauce - 30 ml
  • Hoisin sauce - 15 ml
  • Honey - 15 grams
  • Five-spice powder - 5 grams
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 10 grams, grated
  • Vegetable oil - 15 ml
  • Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
  • Cucumber - 1, sliced for garnish
  • Sesame seeds - 5 grams, for garnish

Steps

  1. Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it for 30 minutes.
  2. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, five-spice powder, minced garlic, and grated ginger to create the marinade.
  3. Cut the pork shoulder into thin slices and add it to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well coated. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours for more flavor.
  4. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  5. Spread the marinated pork on a baking sheet lined with foil and drizzle with vegetable oil. Bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until caramelized and cooked through.
  6. While the pork is baking, cook the soaked rice in a rice cooker or on the stovetop according to package instructions.
  7. Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork and let it sit covered for a few minutes.
  8. Serve the rice in bowls topped with the baked pork slices, garnished with chopped green onions, cucumber slices, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
