- Beef sirloin - 250 grams
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Brown sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
- Cucumber - 1/2, sliced
- Carrot - 1/2, julienned
- Fresh herbs (cilantro, mint) - a handful
- Chili sauce - for serving
Steps
- Rinse the broken rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in warm water for 30 minutes.
- While the rice soaks, prepare the marinade for the beef by mixing soy sauce, fish sauce, minced garlic, brown sugar, lemon juice, and black pepper in a bowl.
- Slice the beef sirloin into thin strips and add it to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are coated. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- After marinating, heat the vegetable oil in a grill pan over medium-high heat. Grill the beef strips for about 3-4 minutes on each side until cooked to your liking.
- In a pot, bring 400 ml of water to a boil and add the soaked broken rice. Reduce to a simmer, cover, and cook for about 15 minutes until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
- Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork and let it sit for a few minutes.
- To serve, place a portion of broken rice on each plate, top with grilled beef, and arrange cucumber, carrot, and fresh herbs around.
- Drizzle with extra lemon juice and serve with chili sauce on the side.
