Ingredients

  • Jasmine rice - 150 grams
  • Firm tofu - 200 grams
  • Soy sauce - 30 ml
  • Maple syrup - 15 ml
  • Sesame oil - 10 ml
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ground black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 15 ml
  • Green onions - 2, sliced
  • Cucumber - 1/2, sliced
  • Fresh cilantro - 10 grams, chopped
  • Lime - 1, cut into wedges

Steps

  1. Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice according to package instructions, usually using 300 ml of water for 150 grams of rice.
  2. While the rice is cooking, drain the firm tofu and press it to remove excess moisture. Cut the tofu into 1 cm thick slices.
  3. In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, maple syrup, sesame oil, minced garlic, ground black pepper, and chili powder to create a marinade.
  4. Add the sliced tofu to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well coated. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a grill pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated tofu slices and grill for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden and slightly charred.
  6. Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork and set aside.
  7. To serve, place a generous portion of jasmine rice on each plate, top with grilled tofu, and garnish with sliced cucumber, green onions, and chopped cilantro. Serve lime wedges on the side.
