Ingredients
- Jasmine rice - 150 grams
- Firm tofu - 200 grams
- Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
- Maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
- Five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
- Cooking oil - 2 tablespoons
- Vegetable broth - 250 milliliters
- Cucumber - 1 small, sliced
- Pickled carrots - 50 grams
- Fresh cilantro - a handful, for garnish
- Lime - 1, cut into wedges
Steps
- Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then cook it according to package instructions using vegetable broth instead of water for added flavor.
- While the rice is cooking, drain and press the firm tofu to remove excess moisture, then slice it into 1 cm thick pieces.
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, maple syrup, minced garlic, black pepper, and five-spice powder to create the marinade. Add the tofu slices and marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- Heat cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the marinated tofu slices and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and slightly crispy.
- Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork and divide it between two plates. Top each serving with grilled tofu slices.
- Garnish with sliced cucumber, pickled carrots, and fresh cilantro. Serve with lime wedges on the side.
