Ingredients
- Beef (ground or minced) - 300 grams
- Betel leaves - 10 large leaves
- Garlic (minced) - 2 cloves
- Shallots (minced) - 1 medium
- Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
- Chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Rice (uncooked) - 150 grams
- Cucumber (sliced) - 1 small
- Fresh herbs (mint, cilantro) - 20 grams
- Lime wedges - 2
- Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- In a bowl, combine the ground beef, minced garlic, minced shallots, fish sauce, sugar, black pepper, and chili powder. Mix well and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- While the beef marinates, drain the rice and cook it in a rice cooker or on the stovetop according to package instructions.
- Take a betel leaf and place a tablespoon of the marinated beef mixture in the center. Fold the sides over the beef and roll it tightly into a tube. Repeat with the remaining leaves and beef.
- Heat a grill pan or outdoor grill over medium heat and brush it with vegetable oil. Grill the beef rolls for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked and slightly charred.
- Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork and divide it between two plates.
- Place the grilled beef rolls on top of the rice, and garnish with sliced cucumber and fresh herbs. Serve with lime wedges on the side.
