- Lager beer - 200 ml
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, sliced
- Lemongrass - 1 stalk, bruised and cut into segments
- Fresh cilantro - 20 grams, chopped
- Fresh dill - 20 grams, chopped
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Chili - 1, sliced (optional for heat)
- Lime - 1, cut into wedges for serving
Steps
- Clean the snakehead fish thoroughly and make shallow diagonal cuts on both sides for better flavor infusion.
- In a bowl, combine minced garlic, sliced ginger, salt, black pepper, and beer. Mix well to create a marinade.
- Place the fish in the marinade, ensuring it is well-coated, and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- Prepare a steaming setup using a pot with water and a steamer basket or a plate on top of a heatproof dish.
- Layer the bottom of the steamer with lemongrass segments and half of the chopped cilantro and dill.
- Place the marinated fish on top of the herbs in the steamer, and then add the remaining herbs and sliced chili on top.
- Cover the steamer and bring the water to a boil, then steam the fish for 15-20 minutes until cooked through.
- Once cooked, carefully remove the fish from the steamer and transfer it to a serving plate.
- Serve hot with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the fish before eating.
