Ingredients

  • Mackerel fillets - 200 grams
  • Coconut aminos - 2 tablespoons
  • Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Shallots - 2, thinly sliced
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili - 1, sliced (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Gluten-free burger buns - 2
  • Pickled vegetables (carrots, daikon) - 1/2 cup
  • Lettuce leaves - 2

Steps

  1. In a bowl, mix the coconut aminos, brown sugar, minced garlic, sliced shallots, black pepper, and red chili to create a marinade.
  2. Add the mackerel fillets to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Let them marinate for 15 minutes.
  3. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated mackerel fillets and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the fish is cooked through and caramelized.
  4. While the fish is cooking, toast the gluten-free burger buns in the same skillet until golden brown.
  5. Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each toasted bun, followed by the caramelized mackerel, pickled vegetables, and a sprinkle of chopped cilantro.
  6. Top with the other half of the bun, press gently, and serve immediately.
