Ingredients
- Mackerel fillets - 200 grams
- Coconut aminos - 2 tablespoons
- Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Shallots - 2, thinly sliced
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chili - 1, sliced (optional)
- Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Gluten-free burger buns - 2
- Pickled vegetables (carrots, daikon) - 1/2 cup
- Lettuce leaves - 2
Steps
- In a bowl, mix the coconut aminos, brown sugar, minced garlic, sliced shallots, black pepper, and red chili to create a marinade.
- Add the mackerel fillets to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Let them marinate for 15 minutes.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated mackerel fillets and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the fish is cooked through and caramelized.
- While the fish is cooking, toast the gluten-free burger buns in the same skillet until golden brown.
- Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each toasted bun, followed by the caramelized mackerel, pickled vegetables, and a sprinkle of chopped cilantro.
- Top with the other half of the bun, press gently, and serve immediately.
