Ingredients

  • White fish fillet (e.g., catfish or tilapia) - 300 grams
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Coconut sugar - 1 teaspoon (or erythritol for keto)
  • Ground black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
  • Shallots, sliced - 2 small
  • Fresh ginger, grated - 1 teaspoon
  • Red chili, sliced - 1 (optional)
  • Lettuce leaves - 4 large
  • Cucumber, thinly sliced - 1/2
  • Fresh cilantro - 1/4 cup
  • Lime wedges - 2
  • Avocado - 1 small, sliced
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, fish sauce, coconut sugar, black pepper, minced garlic, sliced shallots, grated ginger, and sliced chili. Mix well to create a marinade.
  2. Add the fish fillets to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Let them marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  3. Heat olive oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the marinated fish fillets and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked through and caramelized.
  4. Remove the fish from the pan and let it rest for a couple of minutes. Slice the fish into pieces suitable for a burger.
  5. To assemble the burgers, place a piece of fish on a large lettuce leaf, top with sliced cucumber, avocado, and fresh cilantro. Squeeze lime juice over the top.
  6. Wrap the lettuce leaf around the filling to create a burger and serve immediately.
