Ingredients
- White fish fillets (e.g. tilapia or catfish) - 400 grams
- Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
- Spring onions - 2, chopped
- Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Red chili - 1, sliced (optional)
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
- Lemon - 1, sliced
Steps
- Prepare the fish fillets by rinsing them under cold water and patting them dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.
- In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, and minced ginger to create a marinade.
- Place the fish fillets in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them, ensuring they are well coated. Allow to marinate for about 10 minutes.
- While the fish is marinating, prepare a steamer or set a heatproof plate in a pot with a few inches of water, ensuring the plate does not touch the water. Bring the water to a gentle simmer.
- Place the marinated fish on the heatproof plate and top with chopped spring onions, fresh cilantro, and sliced lemon. If using, add sliced red chili for extra heat.
- Cover the pot with a lid and steam the fish for approximately 15-20 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
- Once cooked, carefully remove the plate from the pot. Serve the steamed fish hot with additional soy sauce on the side, if desired.
