Ingredients
- Whole fish (such as tilapia or snapper) - 400 grams
- Fresh ginger - 30 grams, sliced
- Scallions - 4 stalks, chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Cooking wine (or rice wine) - 1 tablespoon
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Water - 500 milliliters
- Cilantro - for garnish
Steps
- Clean the fish thoroughly and make 2-3 diagonal slashes on each side to help it cook evenly.
- In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, cooking wine, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Marinate the fish in this mixture for at least 15 minutes.
- Prepare a steaming setup by filling a pot with 500 ml of water and bringing it to a boil.
- Place the fish on a heatproof plate. Scatter sliced ginger, chopped scallions, and minced garlic over the fish.
- Once the water is boiling, place the plate with the fish into the steamer basket or on a rack above the boiling water, ensuring it doesn’t touch the water.
- Cover and steam the fish for about 15-20 minutes, or until the flesh is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
- Garnish the steamed fish with fresh cilantro before serving.
