Ingredients

  • White fish fillets (e.g., snapper or tilapia) - 300 grams
  • Scallions - 100 grams
  • Garlic - 3 cloves
  • Ginger - 10 grams
  • Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Lime juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons
  • Chili (optional) - 1 small

Steps

  1. Prepare the fish fillets by rinsing them under cold water and patting them dry with paper towels.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the fish sauce, lime juice, and black pepper. Set aside.
  3. Finely chop the garlic and ginger. Slice the scallions into thin strips, keeping the white and green parts separate.
  4. In a steamer or a heatproof plate, place the fish fillets skin-side down. Spread the garlic and ginger evenly over the top of the fillets.
  5. Drizzle the fish sauce mixture over the fillets, ensuring they are well coated.
  6. Top the fish with the white parts of the scallions and, if using, sliced chili for a bit of heat.
  7. Steam the fish for about 15-20 minutes, or until it flakes easily with a fork.
  8. Once cooked, carefully remove the fish from the steamer. Garnish with the green parts of the scallions and chopped cilantro before serving.
