Ingredients

  • White fish fillets (such as tilapia or snapper) - 300 grams
  • Fresh ginger - 30 grams, thinly sliced
  • Lemongrass stalks - 2, cut into 2-inch pieces and smashed
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Shallots - 2, thinly sliced
  • Fresh cilantro - 10 grams, for garnish
  • Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Lime - 1, juiced
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Water - 200 milliliters

Steps

  1. Prepare the fish by patting it dry with paper towels and seasoning both sides with salt and black pepper.
  2. In a heatproof dish, place the fish fillets and scatter the sliced ginger, lemongrass pieces, minced garlic, and sliced shallots evenly over the top.
  3. Drizzle the fish sauce and lime juice over the fish and toppings.
  4. Set up a steamer or a pot with a steaming rack and bring the water to a boil.
  5. Once boiling, carefully place the dish with the fish into the steamer or on the rack and cover with a lid.
  6. Steam the fish for about 15-20 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
  7. Once cooked, carefully remove the dish from the steamer, garnish with fresh cilantro, and serve immediately.
