Ingredients

  • Salmon fillet - 300 grams
  • Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Shallots - 2, thinly sliced
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Cilantro - a handful, chopped
  • Water - 100 milliliters

Steps

  1. Cut the salmon fillet into two equal pieces and season with black pepper. Set aside.
  2. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, minced ginger, and minced garlic to create the marinade.
  3. In a medium-sized pan or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Add sliced shallots and sauté until they are soft and fragrant.
  4. Add the marinated salmon pieces to the pan, cooking for about 2 minutes on each side until lightly browned.
  5. Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Cover and cook for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the salmon to cook through.
  6. Once cooked, remove the lid and let the sauce reduce for a few minutes until it thickens slightly.
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions and cilantro before serving. Serve hot with steamed rice.
