Ingredients

  • Glutinous rice flour - 100 grams
  • Water - 150 ml
  • Mung beans (dried) - 50 grams
  • Sugar - 30 grams
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil (for frying) - 500 ml
  • Sesame seeds - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. Rinse the mung beans under cold water and soak them for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  2. After soaking, drain and steam the mung beans for about 20 minutes until soft. Transfer to a bowl and mash them.
  3. Mix in the sugar and salt with the mashed mung beans until well combined. Allow the mixture to cool, then form it into small balls (about 1 tablespoon each) and set aside.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the glutinous rice flour and water to form a smooth dough. The dough should be pliable but not too sticky.
  5. Divide the dough into equal pieces (about 30 grams each). Flatten each piece into a disc, place a mung bean ball in the center, and carefully wrap the dough around it, sealing it completely.
  6. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, gently add the dumplings, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
  7. Fry the dumplings for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally for even cooking.
  8. Remove the fried bánh rán with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with sesame seeds while still warm.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy your delicious bánh rán!
