Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 200 grams
  • Warm water - 100 milliliters
  • Ground pork - 150 grams
  • Shallots - 2, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Egg - 1, beaten
  • Fresh cilantro - 20 grams, chopped
  • Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
  • Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Cheese (mozzarella or cheddar) - 100 grams, shredded
  • Green onions - 2, chopped

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and warm water to form a dough. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth, then cover and let it rest for 20 minutes.
  2. In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped shallots and minced garlic, sautéing until fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the ground pork to the skillet, stirring until cooked through. Mix in fish sauce, sugar, salt, black pepper, and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  4. Once the pork mixture has cooled, stir in the beaten egg, chopped cilantro, and green onions until well combined.
  5. Divide the dough into two equal portions. Roll out each portion into a thin circle about 20 cm in diameter.
  6. Heat the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place one dough circle in the skillet, and add half of the pork mixture and half of the shredded cheese on top.
  7. Cover with the second dough circle, pressing down the edges to seal. Cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Repeat the process for the second bánh pía thịt. Slice and serve hot.
