- Warm water - 100 milliliters
- Ground pork - 150 grams
- Shallots - 2, finely chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Egg - 1, beaten
- Fresh cilantro - 20 grams, chopped
- Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
- Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Cheese (mozzarella or cheddar) - 100 grams, shredded
- Green onions - 2, chopped
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and warm water to form a dough. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth, then cover and let it rest for 20 minutes.
- In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped shallots and minced garlic, sautéing until fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the ground pork to the skillet, stirring until cooked through. Mix in fish sauce, sugar, salt, black pepper, and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Once the pork mixture has cooled, stir in the beaten egg, chopped cilantro, and green onions until well combined.
- Divide the dough into two equal portions. Roll out each portion into a thin circle about 20 cm in diameter.
- Heat the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place one dough circle in the skillet, and add half of the pork mixture and half of the shredded cheese on top.
- Cover with the second dough circle, pressing down the edges to seal. Cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
- Repeat the process for the second bánh pía thịt. Slice and serve hot.
