- Firm tofu - 200 grams
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Hoisin sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Paprika - 1/2 teaspoon
- Baguette - 2 pieces
- Cucumber - 1 small, sliced
- Carrot - 1 medium, julienned
- Daikon radish - 100 grams, julienned
- Fresh cilantro - a handful
- Jalapeño - 1, sliced (optional)
- Mayonnaise - 2 tablespoons (vegan if desired)
- Lime - 1, cut into wedges
Steps
- Press the tofu to remove excess moisture for about 15 minutes, then cut it into 1 cm thick slices.
- In a bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, vegetable oil, minced garlic, black pepper, and paprika to create a marinade.
- Add the tofu slices to the marinade and let them soak for at least 10 minutes.
- Preheat a grill pan or outdoor grill over medium heat.
- Grill the marinated tofu slices for about 5-7 minutes on each side until they are golden and slightly charred.
- While the tofu is grilling, prepare the vegetables: slice the cucumber, julienne the carrot and daikon radish, and chop the cilantro.
- Once the tofu is done, slice the baguettes open lengthwise but not all the way through.
- Spread a tablespoon of mayonnaise inside each baguette, then layer with grilled tofu, cucumber, carrot, daikon, jalapeño (if using), and cilantro.
- Serve with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the sandwich.
