- Garlic (minced) - 2 cloves
- Shallot (minced) - 1 medium
- Soy sauce (Halal) - 2 tablespoons
- Fish sauce (Halal) - 1 tablespoon
- Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
- Lime juice - 1 tablespoon
- French baguette - 2 pieces
- Cucumber (sliced) - 100 grams
- Carrot (julienned) - 50 grams
- Daikon radish (julienned) - 50 grams
- Fresh cilantro - a handful
- Fresh mint - a handful
- Chili sauce (optional) - to taste
- Mayonnaise (optional) - to spread
Steps
- In a bowl, combine minced garlic, shallot, soy sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, black pepper, and lime juice to create a marinade.
- Slice the beef thinly against the grain and add it to the marinade, mixing well. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, grill the marinated beef for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until cooked to your desired level of doneness.
- While the beef is grilling, prepare the vegetables: slice the cucumber, julienne the carrot and daikon radish, and rinse the fresh herbs.
- Once the beef is cooked, remove it from the grill and let it rest for a couple of minutes before slicing it into strips.
- Slice the baguettes open lengthwise, and optionally spread mayonnaise inside.
- Layer the grilled beef strips, cucumber slices, carrot, daikon, cilantro, and mint inside the baguettes.
- Drizzle with chili sauce if desired, close the baguettes, and serve immediately.
