Ingredients

  • Baguette - 2 pieces
  • Firm tofu - 200 grams
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Carrot - 1 medium, julienned
  • Cucumber - 1 small, sliced
  • Fresh cilantro - 1/4 cup, chopped
  • Pickled daikon - 1/4 cup (optional)
  • Chili sauce - to taste
  • Salt - to taste
  • Pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. Press the firm tofu to remove excess moisture, then cut it into slices about 1 cm thick.
  2. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Marinate the tofu slices in this mixture for at least 10 minutes.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the marinated tofu slices and cook until golden brown and crispy on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  4. While the tofu is cooking, prepare the vegetables: julienne the carrot, slice the cucumber, and chop the cilantro.
  5. Once the tofu is cooked, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly.
  6. Slice the baguettes in half lengthwise, without cutting all the way through. Lightly toast them in the oven or on a pan if desired.
  7. Assemble the bánh mì by placing the crispy tofu in the baguette, followed by the julienned carrot, cucumber slices, fresh cilantro, and pickled daikon if using.
  8. Drizzle with chili sauce to taste, close the baguette, and serve immediately.
