Ingredients

  • French baguette - 1 medium (about 250g)
  • Ground pork - 200g
  • Shallots - 2 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Carrot - 1 medium, julienned
  • Cucumber - 1/2 medium, sliced
  • Fresh cilantro - a handful, chopped
  • Mint leaves - a handful, chopped
  • Mayonnaise - 2 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Lime - 1, juiced
  • Chili sauce - to taste (optional)

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine ground pork, shallots, garlic, fish sauce, sugar, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are incorporated.
  2. Form the mixture into small patties, about 5 cm in diameter.
  3. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a little oil. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
  4. While the patties are cooking, prepare the vegetables: julienne the carrot, slice the cucumber, and chop the cilantro and mint leaves.
  5. Once the patties are done, slice the baguette in half lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Spread mayonnaise on both sides.
  6. Layer the cooked pork patties inside the baguette, followed by the carrot, cucumber, cilantro, and mint.
  7. Drizzle with lime juice and soy sauce, and add chili sauce if desired.
  8. Close the baguette and cut it into two portions. Serve immediately.
