Ingredients

  • Pork shoulder - 200 grams
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Shallots - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Egg - 1, beaten
  • Fresh baguette - 2 pieces
  • Cucumber - 1/2, sliced
  • Carrot - 1 small, julienned
  • Daikon radish - 1/4, julienned
  • Cilantro - a handful, chopped
  • Mayonnaise - 2 tablespoons
  • Chili sauce - to taste
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, minced garlic, chopped shallots, fish sauce, black pepper, sugar, and beaten egg. Mix until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into two patties and refrigerate for 15 minutes to firm up.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side, until golden brown and cooked through.
  4. Meanwhile, prepare the pickled vegetables by mixing the julienned carrot and daikon radish in a bowl with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and set aside.
  5. Slice the baguettes open and spread mayonnaise on both sides.
  6. Place the cooked pork patties inside the baguettes, then layer with cucumber slices, pickled carrots and daikon, and fresh cilantro.
  7. Drizzle with chili sauce, close the baguette, and serve immediately.
