Ingredients

  • French baguette - 2 pieces
  • Ground beef - 200 grams
  • Breadcrumbs - 30 grams
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Cilantro - 20 grams, chopped
  • Green onions - 20 grams, sliced
  • Lettuce - 2 leaves
  • Cucumber - 1/2, thinly sliced
  • Carrot - 1/2, julienned
  • Daikon radish - 1/2, julienned
  • Vinegar - 2 tablespoons
  • Chili sauce - to taste
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, minced garlic, fish sauce, black pepper, sugar, cilantro, and green onions. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Form the mixture into small meatballs, about 2-3 cm in diameter.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, add a little oil and cook the meatballs for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally until they are browned and cooked through.
  4. While the meatballs are cooking, prepare the pickled vegetables. In a bowl, mix the julienned carrot and daikon radish with vinegar and let sit for about 10 minutes.
  5. Slice the baguettes open lengthwise, leaving one side hinged. Lightly toast them if desired.
  6. Spread a thin layer of soy sauce on the inside of each baguette, then add a layer of lettuce, followed by the cooked meatballs.
  7. Top with the pickled vegetables, cucumber slices, and drizzle with chili sauce to taste.
  8. Close the baguette and serve immediately, garnished with additional cilantro if desired.
