Ingredients

  • Baguette - 2 pieces
  • Firm tofu - 200 grams
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Fresh ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Carrot - 1 medium, julienned
  • Cucumber - 1 medium, thinly sliced
  • Fresh cilantro - 1/2 cup, chopped
  • Sliced jalapeño - 1, to taste
  • Lime juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess water, then cut into 2 equal patties.
  2. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, salt, and black pepper. Marinate the tofu patties in this mixture for at least 10 minutes.
  3. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat, add a little oil, and cook the marinated tofu patties for about 5 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  4. While the tofu is cooking, prepare the vegetables by julienning the carrot, slicing the cucumber, and chopping the cilantro.
  5. Once the tofu is cooked, cut the baguettes in half lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Lightly toast them in the skillet for a minute if desired.
  6. Assemble the Bánh Mì Bầu by placing a tofu patty in each baguette, adding the julienned carrot, cucumber slices, cilantro, and jalapeño to taste. Drizzle with lime juice.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious dairy-free Vietnamese burger!
