Ingredients

  • Ground beef - 250 grams
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Shallots - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cilantro - 1 tablespoon, chopped
  • Lime juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Baguette - 2 small
  • Cucumber - 1/2, thinly sliced
  • Carrot - 1 small, julienned
  • Daikon radish - 1/4, julienned
  • Mayonnaise - 2 tablespoons
  • Chili sauce - to taste
  • Fresh mint leaves - a handful

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, minced garlic, chopped shallots, fish sauce, soy sauce, sugar, black pepper, chopped cilantro, and lime juice. Mix well until fully combined.
  2. Shape the meat mixture into two patties, approximately 1.5 cm thick.
  3. Preheat a grill or frying pan over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until cooked through and nicely charred.
  4. While the patties are cooking, prepare the vegetables: slice the cucumber, julienne the carrot and daikon radish, and set aside.
  5. Slice the baguettes open lengthwise, leaving one side attached. Spread mayonnaise on the inside of each baguette.
  6. Place the cooked beef patties inside the baguettes. Top with cucumber slices, carrot, daikon radish, fresh mint leaves, and drizzle with chili sauce to taste.
  7. Close the baguette and press down gently. Serve immediately and enjoy your Bánh Mì Bò Bằm Nướng!
