Ingredients

  • Minced beef - 250 grams
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Shallots - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Carrot - 1 small, julienned
  • Cucumber - 1/2, thinly sliced
  • Fresh cilantro - 1/4 cup, chopped
  • Fresh mint - 1/4 cup, chopped
  • Chili pepper - 1 small, sliced (optional)
  • Baguette - 2 small
  • Mayonnaise - 2 tablespoons (optional)
  • Lime - 1, cut into wedges

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the minced beef, garlic, shallots, fish sauce, soy sauce, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.
  2. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the beef mixture and cook for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is fully cooked and browned.
  3. While the beef is cooking, prepare the vegetables. Julienne the carrot, slice the cucumber, and chop the cilantro and mint.
  4. Once the beef is cooked, remove it from the heat and set aside.
  5. Slice the baguettes in half lengthwise and lightly toast them in the skillet for about 1-2 minutes until crispy.
  6. Spread mayonnaise (if using) on the inside of each baguette half.
  7. Fill each baguette with the cooked minced beef, followed by the julienned carrot, cucumber slices, and fresh herbs.
  8. Top with sliced chili pepper if desired, and serve with lime wedges on the side.
