Ingredients

  • Rice flour - 100 grams
  • Mung beans (dried) - 50 grams
  • Water - 500 milliliters (for the batter) + 200 milliliters (for steaming)
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon (for greasing)
  • Chopped green onions - 2 tablespoons
  • Chili sauce - to taste (optional)
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon (for serving)

Steps

  1. Soak the mung beans in water for at least 2 hours, then drain.
  2. Steam the soaked mung beans for about 15 minutes until soft, then mash and set aside.
  3. In a bowl, mix rice flour, salt, sugar, and 500 milliliters of water until smooth to create the batter.
  4. Grease a square baking dish with vegetable oil, then pour in half of the rice flour batter.
  5. Add the mashed mung beans evenly over the batter, then pour the remaining batter on top.
  6. Cover the dish with a lid or aluminum foil and steam for about 25-30 minutes until fully cooked.
  7. Let the Bánh Đúc cool for a few minutes, then cut into squares.
  8. Serve warm, garnished with chopped green onions, a drizzle of soy sauce, and chili sauce if desired.
